Getting a flat tire is always stressful, but with the right tools and a little preparation, anyone can change one. Follow these instructions from our team at Land Rover Waukesha, then come in for Land Rover service afterward.

Getting Ready

When you hear your tire go flat, don’t panic. Instead, slow down and look for a flat section of road with a wide shoulder — or better yet, a parking lot or other safe place. Turn on your hazard lights and parking brake, apply wheel wedges, and get your equipment ready.

Changing a Tire

Look for an unpainted metal part of the frame on the underside of your car and line up your jack. Loosen the lug nuts with your lug wrench — not all the way, but enough so that you can unscrew them by hand — and raise your vehicle with the jack around six inches off the ground. Now you can unscrew the lug nuts entirely, remove the flat tire, and replace it with your spare.

Finishing the Job

Re-attach the lug nuts and tighten them by hand, then lower the jack so the wheel is just resting on the ground. Now it’s time to tighten the lug nuts all the way, so use your lug wrench and your body weight to make them as tight as you can. Your new wheel is now attached, so you can let the car down all the way and put away your jack, lug wrench, and other equipment.
