Even reliable luxury SUVs occasionally need Land Rover service. What do you do if your battery dies? Here are the steps to follow from the team at Land Rover Waukesha.

Prepare for the Jump-Start

Before you jump-start your vehicle, you’ll need to do a little preparation. First, consider your safety. Rain and snow can make a jump-start dangerous, so if the weather isn’t cooperating, either call our Land Rover service center for a tow or wait until the precipitation ends.

Second, call a friend or family member to bring their working car next to your SUV, or recruit a friendly passerby. Then grab your jumper cables, a pair of gloves, and your user manual, and get ready to jump your battery!

Steps to Jump-Starting a Dead Battery

If the weather is cooperating and a working car has arrived to help you jump-start your battery, follow these steps:

  • Turn off both vehicles.
  • Connect one red end of the jumper cable to the dead battery’s positive terminal and the other to the working battery’s positive terminal.
  • Connect the black clamp to the working car’s negative battery terminal and attach the other to an unpainted metal part of your SUV.
  • Fire up the working car’s engine and let it run for at least five minutes.
  • Start your engine, and let it run for at least fifteen minutes. If it doesn’t start, you probably need a new battery

A dead battery could be symptomatic of another issue like your starter or alternator needing replacement. After you’ve jump-started your battery, get to our Land Rover service center so we can check for underlying problems.
